Before We Were Travel Bloggers . . .

  • Jordyn was the go-to friend for booking flights and planning trips, turning her love for travel into a skill long before starting a blog.
  • JT had dreamed of being a YouTuber since 2016, always drawn to storytelling and sharing experiences through video.
  • Jordyn started earning and using points and miles at just 18, mastering budget-friendly travel before it became her full-time passion.
  • JT didn’t even have a passport before meeting Jordyn—his first international trip was with her in 2020!
  • Together, we lived all around Arizona for five years before hitting the road full-time to explore all 50 states.
  • Our dog, Rizzo, has been by our side on every adventure, making him just as much of a travel pro as we are!

A Little About Jordyn:

My love for travel started long before I ever stepped on a plane. As a teenager, I was obsessed with capturing moments—whether it was at concerts or flipping through photos of places I dreamed of visiting. But growing up, travel always felt like something meant for “other people”—people with unlimited time and money. That all changed when I discovered the world of budget travel. What started as a passion for finding cheap flights and reading travel blogs turned into a lifelong dream: to see the world and help others do the same. Now, JT and I are full-time travel creators, proving that adventure doesn’t have to come with a high price tag.

Where it all Started

I grew up in Fuquay-Varina, a small town outside of Raleigh, North Carolina, where family road trips and ski trips were the only things that sparked my curiosity about the world beyond my hometown. But it wasn’t until 2010, when I learned about an international school trip, that my desire for adventure truly ignited. I was beyond excited at the thought of traveling abroad, and I begged my parents to let me go. They told me that I could only join if I raised the money myself, so I took it upon myself to go door-to-door, raising funds so I could be part of the trip. That summer, I traveled to Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and France. And as if that wasn’t enough of an adventure, we found ourselves stuck in Europe when a volcano erupted in Iceland, grounding all flights. Being stranded across the globe could have been terrifying, but instead, it was one of the most profound and life-changing experiences. It deepened my love for travel, taught me how to embrace the unexpected, and set me on a path I would never stray from—becoming a travel creator. From that moment, I knew there was so much more of the world waiting for me to discover.

Falling in Love with Travel

When I was a teenager, music was my world. I spent my time photographing concerts, feeling the rush of capturing the perfect shot. That passion for photography slowly evolved when I stumbled across @findingalexx’s journey—52 countries in 52 weeks. I was completely hooked. The idea of turning travel into a career seemed impossible, but I couldn’t shake it.

Around the same time, I read How to Travel the World on $50 a Day by Nomadic Matt, and it opened my eyes. There was a way to make travel affordable, to make it my life. I became the friend everyone called to help book their trips. I spent hours researching points and miles, unlocking a whole new world of possibility. Deep down, I knew this was what I wanted—to see the world and share it with others.

When the World Stopped, We Found Another Way

I was so close to making my dream a reality when I studied abroad in Luxembourg. Learning French, immersing myself in new cultures—it was everything I had hoped for. But then, in 2020, the world shut down.

JT had flown out to visit me just before the borders started closing. What was supposed to be a short trip turned into three weeks of isolation as we watched flights get canceled one by one. Then, I got an email from my university: I had 24 hours to return to the U.S., or I’d be dropped from all my classes. It was chaos. The borders to Germany had already closed, and nearly every flight out of Luxembourg was canceled—except one. A last-minute route through Paris.

We grabbed our bags and ran. Our carry-on suitcase wouldn’t even fit on the plane, but in the rush, the flight crew strapped it into an empty seat up front. A few hours later, the borders slammed shut behind us. We had made it onto the last flight out.

I landed back in Arizona feeling completely lost. My dreams of travel had been ripped away, and I had no idea what came next. But then, JT and I had a crazy idea: what if we turned a bus into a home and traveled anyway? So, in 2021, we bought a shuttle bus, spent months converting it into a tiny home, and hit the road. For three months, we drove through nine states, chasing adventure in a way we never expected.

Turning a Passion into a Full-Time Reality

After college, we tried the traditional path—9-5 jobs, stability, the “safe” route. But that travel itch never left. In 2022, when the world reopened, we started traveling internationally again, documenting our trips just for fun. That’s when The Mobile Homie was born. At first, it was just a way to share our adventures, but soon we realized we could actually help people—showing them that travel wasn’t just for the rich, that there were ways to see the world affordably.

In June 2023, I took the leap and quit my job to go all in on travel content creation. That year alone, we spent four months visiting 24 countries. Since then, we’ve explored over 43 countries and all 50 states. In 2024, we decided to take on our biggest challenge yet—a six-month road trip to all 50 states in our Subaru Crosstrek and pop-up tent. It wasn’t just a trip; it was a way to prove that adventure is possible on any budget.

That decision became even more meaningful when JT was unexpectedly laid off in April 2024. Instead of seeing it as a setback, we saw it as the push we needed to make this our full-time reality. Now, we spend our days traveling, creating, and helping others do the same. Because we know what it’s like to dream about travel and feel like it’s out of reach. And we’re here to show you that it’s not.

A Little About JT:

Where It All Began

I was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but I spent the better part of seven years of my life in Chicago. After moving back to Arizona, my family took us on road trips to places across the U.S., vacations to Mexico, and even a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. But despite all of that, I never felt the pull to leave the country. My world felt big enough, and I didn’t really have any desire to go beyond the borders.

College & the Shift Toward Travel

In college, I still didn’t think about traveling outside of the U.S. It wasn’t on my radar, and I was focused on going to school & spending my time with my friends. But everything changed when Jordyn introduced me to photography. There was something about the way photography let me capture moments and tell stories that hit me differently than anything else. I started seeing the world in a new way, one that I had never thought of before. When Jordyn convinced me to get my passport in 2019, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I trusted her, and it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. We took trips together to Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia, and those trips slowly ignited a fire inside me, a hunger to experience the world, to explore, and to document it all through my lens.

The Turning Point: Luxembourg & Europe

Then came the trip that changed everything. My first time traveling abroad. Jordyn was studying abroad in Luxembourg, and I flew out to visit her, thinking it would be the adventure of a lifetime. Little did I know, what was supposed to be an unforgettable trip turned into a life-altering experience. The world shut down, and what was meant to be an exciting getaway turned into three weeks of isolation. We were stuck, trapped in a country that felt so far from home, with every flight canceled and every plan turned upside down. But there was something about the experience that shifted me. Instead of feeling defeated, I found a new fire within myself. The uncertainty of those days only deepened my desire to explore, to understand the world beyond my comfort zone, and to capture it all. I returned to Arizona changed, with a new sense of purpose that I couldn’t shake.

Chasing the Dream

When I got back, I started watching YouTube creators like Kara and Nate living the life I had never imagined for myself. They were living on the road, experiencing the world in such an authentic way, and I thought, “That’s it. That’s what I want.” Jordyn and I didn’t have the money for a van, but we found a shuttle bus from an old folks’ home, and with a lot of work and even more dreams, we turned it into our tiny home on wheels. For three months, we traveled to nine states in the Southwest, and it was everything I’d ever dreamed of and more. But then, reality hit. We ran out of money, and I had to take a 9-5 job in email marketing and automation to support us.

It was a blessing in disguise, though, because it was remote, and that gave us the freedom to travel again. In 2023, I worked remote while traveling to over 20 countries! In 2024, I was laid off from that job, and I made the decision that changed everything. I went all-in on content creation with Jordyn, and together, we built the life we’d always dreamed of.

Now, we’re full-time creators, sharing our story, our passion, and our journey with anyone who believes that travel, adventure, and a life lived authentically is possible, no matter where you start.
